Reviewed on 2007-11-11 Great intro to Hitchcock I LUV Hitchcock, so when I saw this collection with some flicks I hadn't seen, I had to snag it. It's fabulous! It includes some of the great director's first works - including a silent film on Jack the Ripper. This is a must have for Hitchcock fans - and a great Christmas buy for the classic film buffs on Santa's list.

Reviewed on 2007-09-23 I've owned this for quite some time. What a value. What a bargain! As with some other posters, I haven't watched ALL of the movies. I bought this set mainly for several of the movies, which I've watched. Some of the very earliest have not so good audio and video, but most of the ones I've seen do. Unlike some other posters who have stated that this set has 10 or 12 movies, please note: My boxed set has 17 movies/TV shows, so I'm wondering if the posters miscounted, or if they re-issued the set with fewer movies? 15 movies, and 2 TV: The Lady Vanishes/ Man Who Knew Too Much/ Secret Agent/ Skin Game/ Number 17/ The Ring/ Jamaica Inn/ Murder!/ Rich & Strange/ Sorcerer's Apprentice/ Young&Innocent/ Cheney Vase (TV)/ Sabotage/ Lodger/ Blackmail/ Easy Virtue/ Manxman. Wadda deal! If you just want to see some of Hitchcock's earliest films, this is a great set to get. If you're a Hitchcock afficionado or collector, you'll want to pay up for a higher quality set. For the average viewer like me, though, this is GREAT deal. And my favorite, The Lady Vanishes, is of adequate quality for my purposes. As good as any quality I'd see on TCM. Happy viewing!

Reviewed on 2007-08-19 Saturday Afternoon Suspense If you're looking to see Hitchcock in all his glory, absolutely go and find the Criterion Collection versions of your favourite Hitchcock films. However, if you don't know which ones are your favourite, yet, take a perusal through these movies. The films haven't been cleaned up and the audio is decent, so you can certainly go through the movies to see some older Hitchcock films, which are obvious seedlings of what was to come. "The Lady Vanishes" is worth the price of admission. And yes! There really are ten movies included here. What are they? (1927) LODGER - silent (1927) THE RING - silent (1929) BLACKMAIL - silent (1930) JUNO & THE PAYCOCK (1931) RICH & STRANGE (1934) THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1936) SABOTAGE (1936) SECRET AGENT (1937) YOUNG & INNOCENT (1938) THE LADY VANISHES His other 9 movies from pre-Hollywood days (before 1940's "Rebecca") are available in the "The Essential Alfred Hitchcock Collection" (ASIN: B0009WPLVM).

Reviewed on 2007-01-11 Amazon's description is inaccurate The plot synopsis for this product says that this set includes 4 episodes from the 1980's televison series, including Man from the South. This was the reason I purchased this set. I was disappointed to find there are no episodes from that series in this set. This set is exclusively early movies Hitchcock directed, including from the silent era. While they are good movies, and certainly interesting from the perspective of studying the great director as a young filmmaker, I was unhappy Amazon did nothing to rectify their mistake, and still hasn't changed their product description.

THESE REVIEWS APPEAR TO BE FOR SOME MULTIDISC COMPILATION OF VERY EARLY HITCHCOCK FILMS IN B&W. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I ORDERED ONE OF THESE AND GOT THE LATTER AND SENT IT BACK TO SELLER. THERE IS SOME SCREWUP IN THE BARCODING OR SOMETHING BY AMAZON!
