Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-07-25 Bel Vector 995 This was a replacement for an older radar detector that has seen many years of service (also a Bel). So far I am completely satisfied with the new Bel Radar Detector.
Amazon had the best price and shipped promptly as usual. | | Reviewed on 2008-06-05 Solid detector!! I've had my 995 for about a week now. So I can't say too much, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
First impression, Looks nice, solid contruction, very good build quality, maybe a bit on the heavy side, but probably due to its good contruction. Button feel is nice and light, easy to use while on the road.
Coiled smart power cord is built well too, however I don't like the "phone jack" power input, but at least it keeps it neat.
I've havn't been out of the city with it yet, but around town on my commute, it only falses once each way, and in the same place, and that is on the X band which can be turned off, and the meter only reaches level 1.
I did go through a radar trap on the the Ka band and it warned me well in advance.
Display is bright enough, and voice and "chirp" alerts are more than audible, but I would've like to have seen a brighter differnt coloured warning light light to signal a warning, just in case its sunny and I got my stereo or turbo cranked up!!
All and all, so far, In a world or cheap elctronic products, Its refreshing to see such a well engineered a quality built product.....compare this to a "made in China" product and you choose this one!
| | Reviewed on 2008-06-02 Vector 995 gets the job done. I've owned this product for around a year now. So far, I have yet to get any tickets while properly using the device. I drive about 10-20 mph over the speed limit on the highway and the Vector 995 has saved me numerous times. If the police are running their radar "always on", the vector 995 will pick it up with plenty of time to spare. I've run into a few times where the detector did not go off until I saw the cop, as I was breaking heavy, the detector then went off. I'm assuming that instant on radar detectors cannot be picked up until the last second.
As for "false" alarms... of course the Vector 995 gives them. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have never received a false alarm on the Ka or Lasar bands. When I see those come up on the display, time to get busy on the brakes.
I paid around 200 on ebay for the Vector 995. It comes with a nice carrying case (which I don't use). If you can get this product for ~$200, it's a sound investment. I would purchase this product again. | | Reviewed on 2008-04-15 Good Range, Too Many False K Alerts, Detector Lasted 2 Weeks. This radar dectector stopped working right after 2 weeks of use. The K & KA bands would go off non-stop, back and forth between half and full bars as soon as I powered the thing on. I'd unplug & plug back in the detector, shut it down for a while, turned off settings, but nothing seemed to work. I called Beltronics and they asked me where I bought it from. As soon as I said Amazon, the guy on the phone got rude, said Amazon was not a authorized seller, the problem sounded like a faulty antennea, and they wouldn't honor the warranty. If I wanted it fixed it would cost me a minimum of $65.00 plus shipping. He said that for all he knows, the detector could be stolen and repackaged. Amazon, Ebay, etc. are not authorized sellers of their products. Also, trying to get ahold of the seller isn't that easy either. (I won't name the seller unless I get taken for a ride.)
Beltronics Vector 995 Radar and Laser Detector | | Reviewed on 2008-03-29 a mile and under I was a little disappointed with my first trip with the Vector 995. The best warning I got was a 1.2 miles before I was on the police radar patrol.
I travaled through Mich, Ohio, Ky, and Tenn. Bel will not honor its warranty if you buy with a Amazon dealers so I recommend you buy the protection plan or buy it from Bel. The online reports that I have gotten is up to 2 miles is a good detector! | |
