Great sound, but......
I also had several problems with my BA Horizon. Mine also emitted a buzzing sound when the radio was on via the "sleep" mode; but also, as I go to bed after 11 PM most nights, the sleep function won't allow the radio on time to run past midnight. (I.e., it's 11:20 PM, and the device defaults out of sleep setting mode unless a time of 40 minutes or less is chosen.) Seemingly insignificant, but for the price... Also annoying is the previously noted loss of time when the radio is just being listened to in normal mode. I'm either returning it (to Target), or I may contact BA and see if a replacement model has had these bugs worked out. |  | Reviewed on 2008-07-02
Great radio!
I love this radio. In the vertical position, it fits perfectly in the corner behind my bathroom sink so I can listen to the radio while getting ready for work. I have the white antenna wire running up along the side of the mirror so the antenna is concealed quite nicely. It works great for most stations without the antenna, but for distant stations, the antenna really helps. This radio has incredible bass... I have it set at -5 (the lowest possible bass setting), and it is plenty for me. For you bass lovers, I dare you to crank it to +5 and turn up the volume. This is a great radio, and the digital clock is a bonus. I really love the digital tuner. I have a USB FM transmitter (Rocket FM) attached to my computer, so I can stream music from my computer to any FM radio in the house... SWEET! | | Reviewed on 2008-06-27
AM Gets Continuous Static
We returned the Boston Acoustic Horizon radio because the AM dial provides continuous static and is unlistenable. What's more, the directions are extremely arcane. The radio may have been designed and engineered in the US (as the packaging claims) but the directions for how to use it must have been lost in Chinese translation. | | Reviewed on 2008-06-18
surprising sound
I am really enjoying this "clock radio." It's really much more. The aux. input allows external devices, (for me, an HD off-air TV receiver, and this instead of going through my stereo rack). The sound is good (and can be set quite loud), although, it will distort if set near the highest volume. The tuner pulls in really weak stations, it does an excellent job. The controls seem challenging for the first few minutes, and, then, they seem totally intuitive..really a neat job overall. | | Reviewed on 2008-06-01
Boston makes a winner, with a twist!
That's right, I made a cute play at what it does. Hire me, Boston Acoustics, and you too can own this marketing gold.
Okay, maybe not.
There's two ways I'm going to break this down, and it won't be as long, and guaranteed more entertaining than most reviews.

Way one - my personal experience:
Pros: Everything Boston Acoustics said it would be. It's a simple, no-frills and refreshingly gimmick-free piece of artful hardware. For once, a box that you read that doesn't lie it's silly pants off. And if it did lie it's silly pants off, you'd be impressed with what was underneath.
Cons: FM Antenna. An ugly wire? Really? After all that beautiful design? Boo.
Future concerns: Is this "Magic Capacitor," going to cut the mustard for power outages after too much longer? It's not a battery, after all. Only time will tell. As will the control knobs, some of which, though digital, collect more dirt and muck over the years. Who knows.
Overall: My radio came in a good box, powered up, didn't have any issues whatsoever. I wanted exactly what this radio gave -- great sound, no bullpoop, no stupid features and proper inputs and outputs. Boston Acoustics' Horizon Solo for the win.
Now for way two as promised above...
Way two - my opinions on other people's opinions, for the casual reader:
Okay, no pros and cons here. There was some to-do about the clock resetting while listening to the radio, strange buzzes when certain functions were enacted while listening to the radio, display flickering and the like. Go ahead, search the big ol' Internet, those people are out there. Evidently Boston Acoustics lived up to their expectations and sent them error-free pieces. That's nice of them. Mine? Worked fine. While there were some bugs, and potentially a light-detection eye issue with the flickering, good for Boston Acoustics for making them happy. Sure, shame on Boston Acoustics for quality control issues, but hey, you run a big company trying to make profits that potentially makes mistakes. It happens. They did good to fix them, some people get fired, we get working radios, life is sweet.
The ergonomic complaints listed by radio snobs should be chalked up to just that... radio snobs complaining. The AUX port in the back is fine. The knobs are fine. The menu system is fine. The snooze...ring...bezel...thing... works fine. The AM and FM radio pull with provided antennas are great. Evidently there's people out there that want a radio made just for them, or to pull in stations through feet of concrete and steel, and I encourage them to find a company to make a custom radio, or make one themselves that makes them warm and fuzzy. They also have the right to not have it be a 100% winner based upon their personal needs and say something about it.
If your standards are moderately flexible, this radio will satisfy almost anyone that expects it to be as wonderful as claimed by Boston Acoustics. Bugs and Quality Control issues aside.

Keep my words in mind when purchasing this, and I do suggest you do purchase this radio. Perhaps seven.
