Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2007-09-11 This game was a real disappointment I follow NASCAR and look forward to the release of the NASCAR game every year. In previous years I have enjoyed the career mode where you start in the Whelan series and work your way up to the Nextel series. I thought with the PS3 version, there would be lots of extras and career modes. However, the career options are very limited and have not held my attention. Also, in trying to allow you to set up the cars for racing, they have made it impossible to control the cars even in easy modes. It is impossible to get through a race without causing a yellow flag (the yellow flag is thrown so quick, sometimes you don't even see the wreck). I think this game will be a trade-in at Gamestop for Dirt which has a great demo on the PS3. | | Reviewed on 2007-09-08 This game made me laugh out loud... The graphics look like a crappy PS2 game, the gameplay is just plain boring, no two player.. none of this suprises me because Nascar as a sport sucks anyways, people only watch it to see the drivers crash.. but unfortunately, even the crashes in this game suck.. if you want to pick up a good racing game, get Dirt, or if your willing to wait, Gran Turismo HD, EA games these days aren't cutting it. | | Reviewed on 2007-07-30 I should have purchased the PS2 version I have spent many hours with my son racing in 2-player mode in previous versions. We've had SO much fun. He's 13 now and our racing days go way back to Lego Racers on the PC followed by Star Wars Racer and then on to PS2 with all the EA Nascar versions. Those days appear to be over because the PS3 version I just purchased only supports a single (local) player. Besides that it is only 720p and my TV supports 1080p. The PS2 version has 2-player and the XBox360 says it does 1080p. Why does the PS3 version cost the same as the XBox 360 version?I feel ripped off! I would easily give up some of the graphics enhancements to gain all the fun my son and I could have with 2-player mode. | | Reviewed on 2007-07-30 NASCAR I am a diehard NASCAR fan, but It has been quite a few years since I bought a nascar game. I think I was turned of by nascar 2000 (or whenever the first ps2 nascar game was released, because it was terrible). Anyways, I decided to give nascar 2008 a shot to see if it had gotten any better since then. So far I have only done the chase mode, which is a good challenge for all skill levels. You can either choose bronze silver or gold level on the license tests, which is good. Silver is good for a casual gamer, who likes racing games. Gold is very difficult and frustrating.
The other contract races get progressively difficult, and eventually impossible once you get to the Car of Tomorrow super-speedway races. You start 39th, and have 25 laps to get to the front. I have wrecked everytime, and you have no choice to turn off the damage.
The worst part of this game is that you HAVE to drive with the joy stick or the sixaxis controls, both of which are extremely too responsive and hard to use. Unfortunately you can't use the d-pad, which is what I have always used to drive races with. Don't go off the bottom of the track, even by 1 inch, or you will be spinning like a top, with 42 cars bashing you from every angle.
So, in conclusion, if you enjoy racing games, this is a good nascar game, and a good game for the first release of it on a new game system. But if you don't like using the joysticks or the SIXAXIS to drive a car, don't buy it!
| | Reviewed on 2007-07-30 Decent game, but far too many glitches to justify the money... This game has pretty good graphics, I would have preferred to see it in full-hd since the capability is there. Other than that it lacks in pretty much every thing else. Here are a few things I have noticed about the game that made me give it a two star rating...
1.) The very first thing I noticed that kind of rubbed me the wrong way was the over use of Tony Stewert's car and image...I don't know why but they are pimping him hard in this game. (I know this is kind of petty, but for fans of drivers other than tony stewert, it would have been nice to have been able to choose "Your Favorite Driver" as on other games like NCAA football where you can choose "your favorite team" and it shows them at the beginning instead of someone u dont like.....but i digress!
2.) The lack of race modes is kind of upsetting...I would expect to see more in a generation of games that has an almost endless amount of resources at its disposal.
3.) In the "Chase Mode"...the way it is set up leaves a little to be desired...especially how you have to choose one make of car and thats final....then you only have a couple of paint schemes to choose from on a car that you cant even choose the number on....it sucks basically...there are almost no options on what path you want to go in the chase....
4.) I also was having great difficulty driving the car until i figured out that you have to turn the "linerality" or whatever it is, almost all the way up...and the "responsiveness" almost all the way down...this seems to take a lot of the uncontrolable darting all over the track out of the car. Although you still have to be "up on the (wheel)stick" in order to keep the car in control...but i guess that is kinda fun because it almost gives a real feeling to it.
5.) The great "Car of Tomorrow" that is supposed to be nascar's anwser to safty issues in real life...is nothing but a joke on the game...try going for the license test for the C.O.T short track...you will find that at bristol you can make that COT car flip more times than you can keep it flat on the track. It doesnt take much either...all you have to do is go around turn one and bam....you flip like a bus going 90 around a curve....
6.) Last but not least....the differences between "easy" and the next level of hardness(cant think of it right off the top of my head) is to vast....you either leave all the cars in the dust....or you get beat up and wrecked and left in the dust yourself.. on the next level...(in my experience).....i also dont like the fact that you can get black flagged for someone else hitting you....in the rear...while you are going down a straight-uh-way....its b.s. in my opinion....EA threw this game together so fast they didnt have time to test the few options they gave it....
anyway...thats my review....in my honest opinion...dont waste your money...wait a few months it will go down to a more reasonable price...one that is closer to the level of game that you are getting...!!! (20 bucks or less imo!) | |
