Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-06-05 Does not work with AMD64. I'm an Ubuntu user and was looking for a card that would "just work" when I installed. This looked promising for other Ubuntu users, but no where was it mentioned, except for the leaflet that came with the device that this card is designed only for Intel (specifically Centrino) processors. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH AN AMD64 PROCESSOR! I'm sure this card is great, but when I put it in my laptop, a Dell Vostro 1000, it would not even boot. I ended up replacing the worthless Broadcom card that came with the laptop with a Atheros chipset based card using Madwifi drivers and it is working perfectly. | | Reviewed on 2008-04-06 I NEED HELP HELLO I HAVE A DV6110US HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THIS CANT WORK PERFECT IN THIS NOTEBOOK WATH YOU RECOMENT TO ME TO DO

| | Reviewed on 2008-02-15 Very Linux Friendly I am using it in Linux (Gutsy Gibbon with KDE desktop) and it works great. It stays connected to the net not like the new Ralink card that came with my laptop. It also worked with Vista on one boot, but I never tried it in Vista after that. Also I didn't even need the drivers cd that came with it. Total plug and play:) The two downsides are that you have to know how to install a new wireless card in your laptop(which can be easy or difficult depending on your machine) and the second one is that with about 30% signal strength it would eventually drop the network. Overall really great card, the driver problems seemed to have been overcome. | | Reviewed on 2008-01-25 So far so good on Linux/Windows (Vista) So far, seems compatible with both Windows Vista and Linux (OpenSuse 10.3 with updates)
I recently got an Acer 5720-4171 which came with an (AMBIT made) Atheros AR5BX63 card (I think it uses the 5007EG chipset). This card was not yet supported by the madwifi/Atheros driver project at the time for X86-64, and I wanted to dual boot with Linux (for me) and Vista (for the wife). I got this card, with expedited delivery so I could try it in the laptop's return period. PCUniverse dropped the ball on the initial order and unilaterally cancelled it, but a second attempt got me a quick delivery at a decent price from Amazon. The card installation was really pretty simple, the antenna conectors are marked main and aux on both cards, and although they happened to be the same positions on both the cards I used, I'm not sure if that is coincidence or if it is standard. Attaching the antena was not too difficult to remove or attach (the trick is to get them aligned properly, then they click into place). OpenSUSE 10.3's native support detected it in Yast, just be sure to add the repositories for the Intel Drivers, I needed newer ones than appear in the default repository set. I grabbed the most recent version of the IWL3945 drivers and it worked. and I was able to activate the card pretty quickly, I got a driver CD/DVD for windows Vista, but I don't think it is necessary, it looks like Vista picked it right up. So far I've avoided windows side driver upgrades, I'm not sure if I'll ever need/want them based on negative feedback in the forum, although I suspect newer Vista drivers may have better behavior based on the dates of the complaints I'm seeing on-line (most of them are about 6 months old or so at the time of writing). | | Reviewed on 2008-01-06 Beware _Beware_ of the vendor!
My order was canceled and they didn't bother to notify.
When I tried to check the status, I was told the manager canceled my order due to out-of-stock.
After 4 weeks later, I still have not received my refund.
Once again _Beware_ of the vendor! | |
