| Product Description2 Port USB KVM. IOGEAR's GCS42UW6 is designed to be a simple, convenient method for sharing a monitor, keyboard and mouse between two computers, simply connect the attached cables to each computer, connect your monitor, USB mouse and keyboard to the console ports on the KVM boot the computers, tap the button to change computers, that's all there is to it.
Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-07-17 IOGEAR KVM..Works Great I have had the 2-port compact USB KVM swtich for about a month and it works great between the two computers I manage at work. Now I'm able to control both computers with just a keyboard, mouse and monitor. | | Reviewed on 2008-06-02 Review on IOGEAR KVM This model KVM works with all operating systems, or so I was told by the IOGEAR help desk. Well, I don't know about all, but it does work with Microsoft Vista and NT. It seems to work just fine being able to toggle between my desktop and laptop. My only complaints are: there is no audio plug-in; and there is no shortcut command on the keyboard. You have to press a button on the KVM itself, which can be a pain depending on where you locate it. | | Reviewed on 2008-04-08 What good is a KVM that locks up? We bought this KVM to switch between two Dell PCs, one Optiplex GX620 and the other an older Optiplex model number unknown. It seemed like exactly what we needed, a nice, simple switch with a big button and no special key sequences required to switch between two machines that share a single monitor, USB keyboard and USB mouse.
Unfortunately it doesn't work reliably. Sure, it will switch a few times, maybe even a dozen, before locking up but for us it ALWAYS locked up eventually. When it does the keyboard and mouse are left in an unpowered state leaving you only one option - a hard reset of the computer. Removing and replacing the cable to force a USB enumeration does not help. Sometimes even the video goes dead.
To IOGear's credit their tech support is easy to reach and answered the phone quickly. The people there seemed knowledgeable about their products but they had no suggestions that could resolve the KVM problems and finally suggested that we return it for a refund. Unfortunately even the best support can't make a bad product work. | | Reviewed on 2008-02-26 Works with single USB wireless keyboard and mouse I'll be honest, I actually haven't used it (the GCS42U)yet, but I called IOGEAR tech support because I was having trouble with the I did buy (GCS32U). It turns out the GCS32U doesn't work well with a wireless Keyboard and Mouse that uses a single USB connection. They state that this (GCS42U) does. Hope this helps someone to not go through the pain I did... | | Reviewed on 2008-02-23 Very fast, solid KVM. I purchased this little box to switch between my Win XP desktop computer and my Win XP laptop. I have a USB keyboard and USB mouse. Unlike some other KVM boxes out there, this little guy switches very fast. It switches in about 1 second. I read that some others switch over in 6 seconds - yikes. That would drive me crazy. I use both computers while I work so I am constantly switching between PCs. I don't use the monitor switching though, so I can't comment on that.
The button to switch between PCs is the circle black button in the top center of the unit. A red light tells you which PC is currently "hot", which is handy.
My only wish would be that I could get a remote, so I wouldn't have to stare at this huge box all day. I'd prefer to hide it away, and get a smaller remote that I can use to switch PCs with.
