Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-06-16 "On rails" swordplay w/bow & other weapons I rented this, so have only played a short time.
Yes, this is old-style not total freedom environment swordplay. Yes, the graphics leave much to be desired, but the enemies move/die/fall nicely. This is first person so all you see is your slashing which is responsive & target/aim circle for shooting a bow as well as more precise swordplay. (There are other weapons in the other levels.)
You can play Easy, Medium, Hard & when you beat Hard, you get Chaos version. (The enemies are harder to strike on more difficult levels.) You can replay missions to get more "gold" for the points you scored to make your weapon/strength/defense better & also increase life, etc. You also get graded from failure, D-A & S for Super.
The first level was too boring as the army always comes in batches of 3-10! (yeah, like even Jackie Chan or Jet Li could do 10 at once in real life... ok, MAYBE they could) so you slash more wildly or horizontally to get as many as you can at once. Although very rare these guys actually finally attack you back, about as much fun as slashing a mannequin. If they do attack, they glow like fire which is great way to let you know.
At the end of the second mission of the first level is the captain of the opposing army who fights you sword to sword. This is more interesting as you are only against him (like real life & he attacks more often, is harder to beat & actually seems somewhat real. At the end of the entire level is another leader for the opposing army who shoots balls with his feet which is interesting but I beat way too easily. I wish the WHOLE game had less brain-dead AI fighters in large quantities & less fighters with quality skill AI.
Level 2 gives you a bow to shoot & reload when shoot off screen like most shooter games. You do use the nunchuck to look around to almost a full 360 turns which makes this more interesting. Don't shoot the wildly running (and in your way) innocent villagers.
That's as far as I had time to get. The idea is there, but it just doesn't quite work out unless you really like swordplay & shooter games.
There's a bit of reading as there is a storyline of who is fighting who in this war.
Look at other sites for game reviews as they said there is even horse riding using the wii tilt ability & there are some level areas that have free roam. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-28 Another crappy game for the Wii Like all Samurai/ Dynasty Warrior games I wasn't expecting anything less than brainless fun. The only good thing about this game is using the Wii controller and nunchuck to hack and slash your way through. The graphics are horrible by today's standard, and there is no freedom to roam around in the game. It's set up like an old arcade shoot em up, which does not work well with this game. Pass this game up. And don't even think twice about renting it. | |
