Best Photo Scanner On the Market
I really disagree with the other review on this scanner. I was previously using a Cannon 9950 to scan in my photos and although the quality was fine, it was a very slow process. I bought this scanner as a close friend had scanned 15 THOUSAND photos with this device and with no issues. My friend did this at a fee and the scanner paid for itself on a weekend.
I have converted all of my photographs to digital as this device seamlessly integrates into Photoshop (not included) as well as just about any other application. I have not seen any of the quality issues, in fact the scans are better than the Cannon.
Furthermore I have converted: all of my MBA materials, every meaningful receipt, record, tax document etc into a searchable pdf. I have disposed of more clutter than you could ever imagine.
I love this thing. It was bought to simply convert photographs but has honestly become the most used device in my home. It is rock solid (mostly metal) and performs flawlessly. |  | Reviewed on 2008-02-14 
Red and Blue and Green, Oh my!!
BUYER BEWARE (Be very aware of what you are getting yourself into)
This machine is great if your favorite color happens to be red, blue or green. Just about every photo you run through this machine will create an un-useable image with one or more lines of red, blue or green . What causes this? DUST. Even the finest, nearly invisible speck on the glass imaging surface will cause the lines. Ok, "so I'll just wipe it off", you say. Well you better get used to it, because that is what you will be doing a lot of.
Sadly it doesn't stop there. I have put up with wiping the outer surface of the glass every few scans. To make matters worse, dust finds its way to the under-side of the glass which cannot be cleaned. At that point, you are completely out of luck. You can remove the glass to clean it, but you'd only be introducing more dust into an otherwise sealed environment. The two air purifiers I purchased, in an attempt to minimize the dust, didn't help.
Kodak Customer Service: The customer service was prompt to quickly answer the phone. They were polite and patiently listened as I explained my problem. What they couldn't answer was how to make the lines on the images go away. Their answer to solve the problem is to continuously send me new machines.
I received three new scanners under warranty. The third scanner was worse than the first, due to pre-existing dust on the under-side of the glass. After many hours on the phone with customer service, I finally got to talk to a higher-up technical person. He enlightened me on what is causing the problem (the dust) and provided a way to minimize the problem, which nowhere near eliminated the problem. The five different customer support reps all acknowledged this is an ongoing problem with all i1200, i1300, and i1400 series scanners. I was told that Kodak is working on the software fix, however it is not expected to eliminate the problem completely.
Through my online research, I found that this seems to be an inherent problem with other ADF scanners.
I really wanted to like this machine. After scanning a few thousand photos and having to delete and redo 25% or more of the images, I cannot in good conscious recommend the Kodak i1220 scanner.
