Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-05-09 Upcoverting Works like a charm. I have 1080I, not 1080P, but the DVD looks amazing.
The only downside is the need for a switch to accommodate 2 HDMI inputs, one from my FIOS box and one from the DVD Player. | | Reviewed on 2008-04-13 Poor quality and support from LG We have had this DVD player for 5 months with light use. It will not power up and LG wants $69 to look at it. This is a poor quality product that the company does not stand behind. | | Reviewed on 2008-02-02 LG DN798 1080p DVD player This has been one of the best DVD Players I have ever purchased. I hooked it up to my LG 32" LCD TV and I am amazed at the picture quality. It was worth the price. | | Reviewed on 2008-01-14 Good solution until format war is over or smaller HDTVs I needed an upscaling player for my 37-inch HD television but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I also didn't want a $50 player that would only cause me trouble. After quite a bit of research, I settled on the DN798.
I'm never sure what to think about picture quality comments in reviews, but this rated well with Consumer Reports and seemed to be well-liked by reviewers. Even without adjusting my set or fine tuning the player, I'm very happy with this player. The closest comparison I can think of is that the movies look similar to the film-based movies available through Comcast's OnDemand.
The quality varies a bit from DVD to DVD, but there are a lot of factors in producing a good image. One that really stood out was The Simpson's Movie, but my nine-year-old version of Dumb and Dumber looked great as well.
Keep in mind that to upscale video and watch protected discs, which is just about anything purchased, the player must be connected using HDMI.
Other pros: Sound was great via coax digital, USB port right on front (goofy limitations in the manual, though), couldn't have been easier to set up. | | Reviewed on 2007-12-11 Works great so far. I purchased this DVD player a few months ago to replace a Denon dvd playe, which I loved. Before hooking this player up, I was worried that the quality would not be great (given the low price). However, after an easy installation, I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent picture and sound quality. (I have the player connected to my receiver via an HDMI cable and a fiber optic cable.)
This player is a great segue between a standard and high definition dvd player.
Pros: Great picture, great sound, easy setup
Cons: Small remote (universal definitely required), not DivX compatible | |
