Having used one of these for several months with a PC here's my observations:
This drive is solidly constructed and comes with a complete set of high-quality cables for all 4 interfaces. It even includes a tool to attach or remove the included stand with.
Using Firewire 400 or USB2, everything works perfectly, including the included software.
The drive works in eSATA mode, but the Retrospect backup software doesn't like it.
It is a bit noisy and warm, but not excessively so. The Drive Properties indicate a "STxxxxxx" manufacturer, meaning the disk inside mine was made by Seagate Technologies.
As I've recently switched to a Mac for my main system, I will likely re-format it back to Mac's HFS+ file system but for now it's doing HTFS on a PC with no issues.
It's the best Quad-interface drive I've seen at only a slightly higher price than it's main competitor which is made of cheap-feeling plastic.
Have Fun,

Do not even try to find a technical support person to talk to - there are none. Buyer beware!! | | Reviewed on 2008-03-10 Good external drive but doesn't play well with Macdrive This drive is a high-quality one but I couldn't use it as intended becuase it wouldn't play with macdrive or the protools 7.4 branded version of macdrive for windows. could have been my setup though. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-04 quiet, cool, and easy to swap other hd I had to purchase this hard drive enclosure because had tried a cheaper quad hd enclosure and it randomly would lose connection while transferring files! That is the only thing an external hd should do is be dedicated to transferring files.
Also this hard drive powers up when plugged in, or powers down when the computer is turned off. That is very nice. Also it has no fan so it is silent. It came with a 320gb hd but i took that out and used it for an OS hd inside the desktop and put a 500GB hd inside the lacie for backup. | | Reviewed on 2008-02-05 Reliable Drive I have 2 new iMac's, one has a 320GB internal hard drive and the other 1TB. I have a 320GB LaCie hooked up to one and a 1TB LaCie hooked up to the other for backup purposes only. Running Apple's "Time Machine" the drives work flawlessly as my whole Mac is backed up every hour. The only complaint that I may have, and the reason for 4 stars and not 5, is that the drives are a bit noisy. Not enough that I would not buy another, but I previously used FireFly/FireLite drives which made no sound whatsoever. I chose the LaCie for the reasonable price for the large capacity...and the Firewire 800 ports. | |
