Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-04-18 Lexmark C534N color laser printer This printer is exceptionally fast in both B/W and color and the quality of the color printing is outstanding. I just finished a church photo membership directory on this printer and I got a standing ovation, countless emails, etc. about the photos (both photography and printing). Because this printer is so inexpensive to operate, the directories cost about 25% less than I initially estimated. Replacement cartridges are very expensive and refilling them yourself is not a walk in the park. I would recommend most people NOT do it. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-12 Grump Old Man FYI - I purchased a new Lexmark C524 Laser Printer from this website several months ago. The shipping box did not contain an Operator's Manual or setup instructions. The setup instructions contained in the printer's memory couldn't be pulled up. Lexmark's website does offer Operator Manuals for downloading. However, for several weeks the manuals wouldn't download. After two months of calls/e-mails/letters to Lexmark, an off-shore/contract customer service person phoned ... only to inform me they didn't know how to set-up a C524 printer. Two weeks & 2-3 phone calls later, I finally found someone at Lexmark who knew how to setup this piece of equipment. Approximately 100-150 printed sheets later, the black ink ran out. I was informed that the toner cartridges included as part of a Lexmark printers initial cost are only partially filled. To refill all 4 ink cartridges cost almost double the printer's purchase price.
The color/print quality is good. However, print time is extremely slow.
| | Reviewed on 2008-03-10 Good purchase Our office uses this printer, and also the similar Lexmark C530.
We have been very satisfied. Reliable, and VERY good print quality.
It has the occasional jam, like all printers, but it's generally pretty reliable.
Quirks:
-no third-party toners available, must buy Lexmark brand.
-Toner "Low" trigger is too soon (turns on when there's still hundreds of pages left)
-printer part "Waste Toner Bin" expired, and nobody had it in stock, INCLUDING LEXMARK, for 2 months. It's $20, so better to have one on hand instead of waiting!
-Paper tray should really hold more paper. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-10 Money Pit ! Not appropriate as an all around printer I bought this printer to use as an all around printer for a small 3 person office. Most what we print are letters in black and white. Please be aware that this printer comes with "starter" toner cartridges, that only last about 1200 copies. OK. I order a complete set of cartridges as well as the required "photoelectric units" that cost a total of about $800. Figure I should be set for awhile, because I very rarely print in color, only black. A month and a half later, the color toner units are running out again! I figure that it must be a mistake. I call Lexmark technical support, and they tell me that even if you are only printing in black, the printer also uses the color toner units!! If you dont want the printer to use the color toner cartridges, you must physically remove them from the printer! Unbelievable! The other problem I see is that every time we need to print a letter, it takes 1-4 minutes for the printer to warm up. This printer does work well as a (very expensive supplies) dedicated color printer. Just do you research before you buy. | | Reviewed on 2008-02-01 Easily the most hated printer in our office We have had this printer for about a year. Besides some kind of consumable seemingly always running out, this printer routinely reports fathom printer jams, very frustrating. It seems to really get unhappy with Manual paper feeds, so dont purchase if you ever want to do that.
Networking has worked great though, except finding the right drivers for this printer is unnecessarily difficult. For example: The Lexmark website lists:
1. Lexmark Universal Postscript Emulation system driver.
2. Lexmark Universal PCL Emulation system driver.
3. Microsoft Certified Windows Vista 32bit PCL Emulation system driver.
without *any* layman explanation to what they are.
