Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-07-13 Bargain in a great universal remote I bought this remote to replace an exact duplicate that had worn out due to LOTS of use. It works great! I've tried a lot of universal remotes before finding this one that does a great job at a very reasonable price. The replacement went flawlessly as well. I just plugged the new remote into my PC and fired up the software. It detected it and allowed me to load my old programming in about 2 minutes. I was up and running that quick. I highly recommend if you are looking for a universal remote for a low price. The macro functions are great for setting up multiple devices with a single button click. | | Reviewed on 2008-07-12 Easy To Set Up It took me some time to set this puppy up. I have this controlling my TV, my Digital Cable Box, Xbox 360 (With HD-DVD Drive), my HDMI Switch and finally my remote control fan. It is incredible, on how, with a little trial and error, the remote will turn on the TV, and the xbox, then select the correct input on the TV and the correct input on my HDMI. Once all of those are up, it will go down to the bottom of my xbox guide and select the HD-Drive. If there is a movie, the movie will begin, else it will eject the tray asking for a movie. All with ONE button press and about 30 seconds of patience.
Am I lazy, yes, but it is darn cool. My only complaint, sometimes you have to press the buttons harder than you should. And sometimes when you set up a device, you have to add buttons to the menu, which isnt difficult but none the less, like the other devices, I didnt think I needed to tell someone that I needed a power button for my fan?!?!?.
Alas, I did set it up, and it took some time, but it was well worth it.
| | Reviewed on 2008-07-09 Great Product So we had gotten a new home entertainment system, and I was in multiple remote hell. So I bought this remote based off reputation, and boy did it stand up to it.
First of all, I like to think that I am fairly tech savy, and for the traditional person, this remote would have been a breeze to set up. However, I have a few components that are newer to the market, so they were not listed in thier database. After trying to manual configure it for 4 hours, I gave up and called customer support. This was one of the more positive experiences of my life.
The tech walked me through setting up my remote, as well as programed my remote on the back end to work the way I wanted it to. And now, my sound system (Sound On WHT-510) and my Netflix box (Roku) are a part of thier permenant database for everyone to use. Which I think is a great tool.
The great thing about this remote is the one function to turn everything to where it needs to be. As all the other reviews have mentioned, this feature makes life so much easier. Although I have noticed that you do have to be patient, as the remote can only send one command at a time. So if you are changing inputs on the tv, powering up your dvd player and swtiching inputs on your reciever, it has to process those commands in order. My biggest suggestion is to hit the button, set the remote down and let it run. In reality, it takes about 5 seconds.
I will say there is only one drawback, which I noted other people had mentioned. The remote is only fat at the back end where the batteries are. Which is expected. I would have prefered the remote be same size all the way through. It just feels more natural to me that way. The keys do make a clicking noise that I am not used too, but that is something that I will easily overlook just for the fact that I can put all my other remotes in a drawer.
I would recommend getting rechargable batteries for this remote. Or at least setting the backlight to be less than 20 seconds. I don't know how long they will last, but the remote is always on, so I can imagine that it will eat them pretty fast. A nice feature would be a sleep function on the remote to save batteries. In all honesty, I use rechargable all the time anyway, so I will regardless. | | Reviewed on 2008-07-07 Great product, lives up to the hype! Like most people, my coffee table was filled with remotes. TV, cable box, stereo, DVD player, etc. I've tried my cable remote's "universal" functions and other universal remotes, and none of them ever really worked very well. Or they would work great on one or two devices, and not on my stereo. Finally, the worst part was explaining to guests (especially my parents) how to turn on the TV if I'm not there or asleep ("Power on the TV with this remote, make sure the input is on HDMI, now power on the cable, etc).
The Harmony Xbox 360 is the first remote that works on every device I throw at it, and the Activities concept is so simple I'm wondering why more technology doesn't work this way. Everyone who comes over is instantly able to work my TV, play the Xbox, watch DVDs, etc. And if something goes out of sync you just click "Help" and it helpfully asks which devices are not powered on. Easy!
My only complaint, and it's a very small one, is the lack of a global Sleep function for when I might fall asleep watching TV and want it to power off automatically. As it stands, I have to activate the Sleep function of each device, and then the next morning the remote is out of sync (because it didn't power the devices off itself, the remote doesn't know they were ever turned off). A global Sleep function in the remote would be great, but you'd have to fall asleep with the remote pointed in the general direction of all the devices you want powered off.
Overall, my life (or at least my enjoyment of leisure time) has improved since I bought this remote. | | Reviewed on 2008-07-04 Great Universal Remote!!!! Works with all components in my home theather setup and a breeze to setup. Only issue I have was learning the buttons that were intended for the cable box, just took awhile to get used to the new system. | |
