Mercenaries is a revolutionary, 3rd person action shooter game set
in the near future and inspired by real world events. On the eve
of a historic reunification of North and South Korea, a ruthless
general stages a military coup to take control of North Korea and
threatens the world with nuclear war.
The international community launches a global task force to
stabilize the region. However, when diplomatic efforts collapse
and the region descends into anarchy they announce a one hundred
million dollar bounty on the North Korean general and his top
military and scientific advisors.
The targets are identified in a "most wanted" list in the form of a
52-card deck of playing cards. As one of the top operatives for a
private mercenaries company called Executive Operations, you have
been called in to collect on these bounties.
Massive, open environments that are completely interactive. If you
can see it, you can use it, steal it, drive it, fly it, or blow it
up.

Explosive combat - you have the firepower (choose from a huge arsenal of
realistic, military weapons) to lay waste to anything in sight.

Flexible gameplay - Use your weapons and your imagination to figure out
how to complete missions in a variety of ways in non-scripted
environments.

Dozens of different military and civilian vehicles, ranging from tanks,
cars, trucks, helicopters, and more that can be commandeered at anytime
and used for any purpose.

Some of the best graphics seen on the consoles - great weather and
realistic explosion/destruction effects.

Based on the US militarys system of identifying a "most wanted" list of
enemy targets in a playing card deck, players will use the playing card
metaphor to identify missions and enemy targets. Take on missions from
the different factions in order to gain intelligence and get new playing
cards/targets and access to new areas.

Reputation system that is driven by an embedded journalist that records
player actions, which determines how civilians and the various warring
factions respond to the player.

Earn cash from different missions to buy better weapons and vehicles, or
sell your vehicles and weapons on the black market.

Best game ever!
Do you like explosions? Hell, I sure do! Mercenaries is a game full of explosions. Blow up a bridge, blow up a car, blow up an office block. If your bored, blow up a city. Not only this, but the music rocks.

Buy it now, you'll thank me later. I've had it for years, never gets boring.

FABULOUS game :-)
I just love this game. My brother and I bought it about a year ago and have played it many many times since. First, for a game on the ps2, the graphics aren't to bad. They might not be what they could be but hey, I didn't spend months proggraming this thing. There's lots of detail too, like if you run into something, your car gets a dent. Also there's a damage meter so you know when your car is going to explode. My best friend and I don't really play the game like your supposed to. We mainly just hijack cars, run down civilans, and drive busloads of the russian mafia off bridges. But when you play the game like you're supposed too, the basic storyline is there is a bunch of north korean terrorists with nukes and you have to kill a bunch of officers till the big one. They're labeled like cards, i.e. the 2 of clubs, the king of hearts. The aces are the generals or bosses. As you work your way up to killing the head honcho, you get better things you can buy. Tanks, cars, helicopters, chinese fuel trucks (oh yah baby!) and supply drops that are brought to you via helicopter when you need ammo, health, c4, etc.

Overall, this is a fun not to challenging game with an good storyline and graphics that is unbelieveably fun. Hence the title, everything is destructable!MWA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

really freaking fun
I have to say this is probably one of my all time favorite video games because you get the freedom to do what you want with few acceptions you can get a rocket launcher and unlimited ammo and health (yes i'm a cheater) you can be a maniac driver with C4s on the hood of your car and just for fun blow helicopters out of the sky with stingers and anti tank rockets (only for bulky choppers) Where else can you get an AK-47 and then switch it to a full blown 12.7mm anti armor rifle? I have some problems like the game doesn't like my good controller so I have to use on that sticks and some times you have to get transported when you get stuck in a say oh I don't know a cargo ship but over all a 18/10 would be my rating and I hated all of the GTA's

You may think this game is an ordinary "shoot 'em up game", well it's not. There is heavy artillery fire, sniper rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and bombs. Plus, there are tanks, trucks, helicopters, etc. My favorite part is when you get paid to kill someone. Those are the reasons I really enjoy playing this game.

Mercs 1 rocks!!!!!
Mercenaries revolutionizes the art of gaming. This game has almost everything to offer, from blowing up towering buildings and luxurious cars to hijacking cars such as city buses and driving them all over the incredible world of Mercenaries. If you don't buy this game, I don't know what's wrong with you, but it's gotta be something serious!!!
