Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2007-03-29 They really could have done more with this... On the Plus Side:
It's $20, tops.
You do get to have a wide variety of monsters, and some of them have interesting quirks... you have to play it to see.
It takes the basic idea of the classic (which is included, along with the next generation world tour rampage, also a plus), and puts it into 21st century graphics, which are done well.
Control is pretty smooth. Nothing is worse than characters that are hard to control.
On the Minus Side:
This game has limited replay power. I really got bored before I completed the game (found all the monsters, etc.) The fundamental flaw to this game is they needed to put some more variety into the buildings, the enemies you face, even what your monsters do. At least with repetitive games like Ms Pac Man you cared about your score. I really didn't care after a while. Oh boy, another helicopter or tank to destroy, yawn.
In conclusion, I give it three stars because it's worth the twenty bucks, but you might just have enough fun renting it for a day, look online to get some hints on where to find the monsters, and smash some buildings up for the afternoon. | | Reviewed on 2007-01-20 i was thinking to give four stars but... Four stars could be the rate for this game, but i've played the original one in the arcades and i had it also the game that i used to play in my granpa's computer with my friend Dario, he always keep coming to play that game, that at that time rocked. Now the new and improved game is fantastic and the graphics, sound and gameplay is a blast, but is just the same kind of game from the late 80's, don't get me wrong the game is great, but the most incredible thing is that you can play the original one, the arcade version that looks incredibly great, but what made me put the fifth star (if it were possible i would have put the sixth one) was the possibility to play a new rampage that came after the original, that have incredible graphics, amazing for a "classic", and that you can look at it and think that this is a PS2 game on its own. If you like destruction and rampage, don't miss this game 'cause you'll love it but if you're a fan of the sims and you hate rampage and destruction maybe you'll like it after playing this title. The cutscenes, are made by the same people that made the incredibles, so it's like having the cutscenes from the world of the incredibles. | | Reviewed on 2006-08-23 A Lot of Fun My two boys (six and four)love this game. The graphics are great, and it's a lot of fun to be able to switch monsters and cities. It can get a bit monotonous after a while, though, and I'm not sure that kids much older would be too enthralled with it, since you're basically just knocking down building after building, over and over, although you can also do some other things, like destroy tanks, eat people, and knock down helicopters and planes. A fun diversion, but sort of simplistic. | | Reviewed on 2006-07-22 Classic reinvented Hmmm. A port from the 1980's. Avoid it like the plague, right? I thought so until I saw it demo'd at a video rental store.
The graphics are incredible! As buildings crumble, pillars become a bit misaligned, windows pop out of their frames, and debris crumbles in all directions. This is old school graphics. The animation stays crisp and cartoonishly awesome even in a blurry bitmapped polygon world.
Smashing buildings. Kicking tanks. Flinging helicopters from the sky. Eating policemen. Expect kids 6 to 12 to go Lord of the Flies for days.
Gameplay is simple if not a bit monotonous. Two player mode is available. There is a bit of frustration with the y and z dimensions. To kick a tank, for example, you have to be aligned just right on the street. This can be forgiven as a challenge of the game.
Overall, a massive improvement over the original. Definitely include it in your collection if you a fan of the 80's.
| | Reviewed on 2006-07-20 about as fun as twiddling your thumbs... this game had great potential, i'm an old fan of the origonal, but it sucks big time. its mega boring and very one dimensional. the only good thing i can say about this game is that it costs about 20 bucks, which is a relative cheap mistake to make. | |
