NVIDIA PureVideo HD Technology The combination of high-definition video decode acceleration and post- processing that delivers unprecedented picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for movies and video. - Discrete, Programmable Video Processor: NVIDIA PureVideo is a discrete programmable processing core in NVIDIA GPUs that provides superb picture quality and ultra-smooth movies with low CPU utilization and power. - Hardware Decode Acceleration: Provides ultra-smooth playback of H.264, VC-1, WMV and MPEG-2 HD and SD movies. - HDCP Capable: Designed to meet the output protection management (HDCP) and security specifications of the Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD formats, allowing the playback of encrypted movie content on PCs when connected to HDCP-compliant displays. - Spatial-Temporal De-Interlacing: Sharpens interlaced content on progressive displays, delivering a crisp, clear picture that rivals high-end home-theater systems. - High-Quality Scaling: Enlarges lower resolution movies and videos to HDTV resolutions, up to 1080i, while maintaining a clear, clean image. Also provides downscaling of videos, including high- definition, while preserving image detail. - Inverse Telecine (3:2 & 2:2 Pulldown Correction): Recovers original film images from films-converted-to-video, providing more accurate movie playback and superior picture quality. - Bad Edit Correction: When videos are edited after they have been converted from 24 to 25 or 30 frames, the edits can disrupt the normal 3:2 or 2:2 pulldown cadence. PureVideo uses advanced processing techniques to detect poor edits, recover the original content, and display perfect picture detail frame after frame for smooth, natural looking video. - Video Color Correction: NVIDIA's Color Correction Controls, such as Brightness, Contrast and Gamma Correction let you compensate for the different color characteristics of various RGB monitors and TVs ensuring movies are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out regardless of the video format or display type. - Integrated SD and HD TV Output: Provides world-class TV-out functionality via Composite, S-Video, Component, or DVI connections. Supports resolutions up to 1080p depending on connection type and TV capability. - Noise Reduction: Improves movie image quality by removing unwanted artifacts. - Edge Enhancement: Sharpens movie images by providing higher contrast around lines and objects. -- SPECIFICATIONs ----------------------------------- INTERFACE/BUS- PCI-Express x16 slot (NVIDIA SLI-Ready) MAIN MEMORY - 512MB DDR 256-bit Memory Interface 57.6GB/sec. If you play on 1680x1080 or less, this card pushes insane framerates with everything maxed in the hottest games!
One slot cooler could have been better, although that's not a negative point for this product as the design follows Nvidia's reference design.
Very highly recommended if you are looking for the biggest bang for your buck!
| | Reviewed on 2008-05-18 wow, great card, great price! I upgraded from a 7800gt to this card - huge difference. I can play games on the highest settings with AA on and no problems. Card is very slim and does not take up alot of space. Few other things I am happy with: 1) I got the card for $160AR from amazon when everyone else was selling it for $200. 2) PNY rebate came incredibly fast - only took 3 weeks (way to go PNY!) 3) the stock cooler is very quiet so you dont need to buy an after market heatsink. This is a big deal because the stock fan on my 7800GT was so loud, I HAD to buy an aftermarket heatsink. With this 8800GT, it was quiet out of the box, and I cant notice it getting louder even when playing games for a long time. Overall, an excellent buy from amazon, and an excellent product from PNY. | | Reviewed on 2008-04-10 Terrific Performance/Cost Ratio First, some background to set the stage. I am very fortunate in that I working in an R&D lab that has cutting edge computer equipment. My office workstation is a dual quad-core Intel box with two Dell 2407 monitors driven by a nVidia Quadro FX 4600. Using glxgears with both monitors at 1920 x 1200, I have a fps of 22,000 ... the Quadro FX 4600 is an awesome beast. I cannot be expected to come home and work on a machine much slower than the one that I have in the office, but my pockets are not as deep. My home machine is a dual Opteron 285 box with a Samsung 245BW and a Dell 2007WFP. I bought a nVidia Quadro FX 1500, which is a nice card, but my glxgears fps were around 15,000 and videos (wmv and flv) would often pixelate.
The 8800 GT has received rave reviews and with the moderate price, I thought that I would give it a try. I also purchased a Danger Den water block for the card since my home system is water cooled. The GPU temperature prior to the water block installation was 76 C in a room with ambient temperatures of 17.4 C. With the water block, the temperature decreased to 34 C.
The 8800 GT has impressed me. The screen colors are more vivid and sharp. My glxgear fps increased to 17,000 and changing desktops is a mere snap now. More importantly, flv movies look great!
Pros: sharp and vivid screen colors, very fast video response, single slot card with cooler, attractive appearance, great nVidia linux drivers.
Cons: I cannot think of a single con. I wish that the card was a little faster, but then when are we ever really satisfied?
Recommendation: If you want a great performer at a good price, then you definitely want to consider this card. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-31 Works great, fast, quiet, even nice 2D colors and great price too What a great look, richer looking colors than my old 1950 pro. This thing is very quiet and doesn't get too hot to be in my Dell 530. In fact it is idling at 35C and rarely reaches 50C (Core Temp) under load. This is with an Antec PS though, not stock PS. Anyway, this thing has a good amount of power and the price was right at $160 after MIR. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-10 Good for the money It's not the newest card on the market but it has been working well for me. I play alot of games...most are compatible EXCEPT for te windows vista curse.
My main reason for choosing this card was dual monitor support and price. It met and exceeded both requirements. | |
