He was also one of the funniest comedians ever, in the malicious tradition of George Carlin and Lenny Bruce, hiding social commentary in the bluster of standup. Rant in E-Minor is probably the best introduction to his work, containing his opinions on such tame subjects as abortion, gays in the military, and Rush Limbaugh. Agree with him or not--and you'd be hard put to find anyone who agrees with everything Hicks had to say--it's devilishly clever stuff; even the dated material is still funny and fresh.
