Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-06-09 Printer definitely lives up to its billing This is my first Samsung printer and I've used it for about a month. I am very happy with it so far.
Set up was easy and both Mac and WIN computers recognized it right away. Had some trouble setting it up as a network printer but managed to resolve it myself. I did send an e-mail to tech support and got no response back.
It is very quiet in sleep mode but is somewhat noisy when printing. It is fast whether you are printing straight text or a page with graphics. Text looks very crisp even at 600 dpi. Images do show a noticeable banding but are good enough for in-house proofing. Pages look a bit faded in Toner Save mode but they are crisp and solid black in regular mode. I have printed complex PostScript Illustrator files and pages with downloadable Type 1 fonts without a hitch or any speed issues. Getting a PostScript3 printer at this price is a bonus in my opinion.
Other than the banding issue and lack of response from tech support, I'm very satisfied with this printer. I strongly recommend it as a network printer for a small office and/or in-house graphics use.
| | Reviewed on 2008-06-02 Regarding duplexing and jams reviews If you need duplexing, then order the ML-3051ND which is identical except it includes duplexing [printing of both sides of a sheet] and may cost $20 more. It does a fine job with duplex print.
I use the manual input [multipurpose tray] a lot, with envelopes and half-letter [30lb. & 20lb 5.5" x 8.5"], and never have had a jamb.
I use the network connection for a wireless notebook, Ethernet connection for desktop, and USB connection when I don't want the internet connected. All work fine if the Samsung printer-drivers are loaded in each computer.
The noise is slightly less than my old IBM 4039 laster printer which lasted 15 years.
The IBM printer could handle letter-size 110lb. cardstock through its manual, straight-through feed. Samsung says anything over 20lb. paper will void their warranty, yet transparencies are clearly heavier than 20lb. thickness and envelopes are too. That is why I think 30lb. half-page paper should be acceptable through the manual tray just like envelopes. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-12 Six reasons why the Samsung ML-3051N is better than the Brother HL-5250DN I looked at all the basic mono laser printers in the $200 range before I chose the Samsung ML-3051N. For some reason, the most popular model was the Brother HL-5250DN. Just compare the number of customer reviews of that model compared to this one and you'll see that it's a very popular printer.
There's only one feature that the Brother has that this one doesn't - duplex. And since I didn't need duplexing I looked at both machines as potentially equal. They weren't. Here's six reasons why the Samsung is better:
1. It doesn't cause a power drain during printing. Unlike the Brother (read the Brother reviews for more info). This was a major issue for me as I live in an older house and only a few appliances can be used at any one time.
2. It has a small 3" long/two line digital status window which provides more info and makes it easier to program. The Brother only has a couple of status lights.
3. It has a toner saving function that reduces output by 40% which saves money. According to CNET, this makes printing on the Samsung a little over 1 cent per page. I've used this with basic text and the pages look just fine for my needs - invoices. (Unfortunately, you really won't be able to use this for more formal documents as there is a slightly faded look.)
4. It typically costs less. When Amazon itself has it in stock (they seem to be out of stock every few weeks) the price is well below $200.
5. It has 64MB of built in memory, twice that of the Brother.
6. It's maximum monthly duty cycle is 35,000 pages compared to the Brother's 20,000 pages. (This isn't actually as big a deal for me since I only print about 1000 pages a month.)
Even the Brother's alleged advantage of duplexing is suspect. Multiple reviewers have indicated that the Brother curls the paper when duplexing.
I know one reviewer has indicated problems with the manual feed. Since I don't need that function it doesn't matter to me either way.
So far I'm extremely pleased with this purchase. | | Reviewed on 2008-03-02 Quite satisfied so far. After just under one month it has delivered everything it promised. For me though it needs to stand the test of time.
That being said, it is certainly the best buy for the money. Other reviews complained about the noise of it warming up. I haven't found it to be much of an issue. The print quality is good and the speed is good also. | | Reviewed on 2007-12-29 Samsung ML-3015N Great little printer network. Set up super easy on a Mac, plug-in and immediately recognized by computers. Networked it to 7 computers in a matter of minutes. Great deal and it arrived quickly. | |
