Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the next-generation media format that delivers the ultimate high-definition entertainment experience. Just like the DVD format offered a technological leap over CDs, Blu-ray Disc is the next leap forward in the natural advancement of data storage and digital entertainment. - Blu-ray Disc offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. - Pristine picture quality with the capability for full high-definition resolution 1080p. - Blu-ray Disc gives consumers a smooth way to transition to high- definition by protecting their DVD investments; Blu-ray Disc players are compatible with DVD so existing DVD collections can be enjoyed on Blu-ray hardware. - NOTE: Video output in HD requires cables and an HD-compatible display, both sold separately. Copy-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard. HDMI cable not included. The Cell Broadband Engine is the digital soul behind the PlayStation3 system. Years in the making, engineers from Sony, SCEI, IBM, and Toshiba have developed an advanced microprocessor unlike any other. The Cell Broadband Engine has up to eight Synergistic Processor Units (SPUs) or "cores" to help balance the processor workload thus making it more powerful and more efficient than traditional "single-core" processors. Breakthroughs in fidelity, believability, and hyper-reality enabled by the raw power of the Cell Broadband Engine processor provide limitless experiences. The multi-axis motion sensing system found in the PlayStation3 controller employs technology that provides for seamless interactive operation, thus eliminating additional settings to TVs. With this system, users are able to maneuver the controller as a natural extension of their bodies, all in real-time and with high-precision. By using a PS2/PSone Memory card adaptor (sold separately) you can copy the data from a PlayStation2 Memory Card onto an internal memory card within the hard disk on the PlayStation3. -- SPECIFICATIONs ------------------------------------ PROCESSOR - CPU: Cell Broadband Engine GPU: RSX MAIN MEMORY - 256MB XDR Main RAM 256MB GDDR3 VRAM HARD DRIVE - 2.5" Serial ATA Drive- 40GB I/O PORTS - Slots for Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash COMMUNICATION- Ethernet (10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseT) IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi Bluetooth 2.0 (EDR) Wireless Controller Bluetooth (up to 7) A/V OUTPUT - Screen Size : 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p HDMI : HDMI Out x 1 Analog : AV Multi-Out x 1 Digital Audio: Optical Digital Out x 1 Blu-ray/DVD/CD Drive "read only" ACCESSORIES - 98040 PS3 Wireless Controller 98042 PS3 Memory Card Adaptor DIMENSIONS - 13.0"w x 3.92"h x 11.0"d WT.- 11.05 lbs. Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-07-26 Sony PS3 Review WOW! As a PC gamer my response to this PS3 is "It's Awesome!" I like how it can stand up like a tower and also be placed flat during game play (did I mention that it looks great with that shiny black finish?); also love the buttonless touch for on/off and eject functions on the console. . LOVE the BLURAY quality; the 1080p is easy to love, once you play 1080 you will find yourself unsatisfied with anything less--it will spoil you, so be careful! The game play is silky smooth--it's like playing on a super-fast personal computer with the best of cutting edge graphix and not having to wait for the disk drive to engage. I RECOMMEND THE PS3 TO ANY PC GAME LOVER! The only thing is that it comes with one controller, and it's an awesome one at that!! It's a wireless-capable, tilt-sensitive "Sixaxis" Sony controller-for those of you who are used to playing with the keyboard, comfort and familiarity will come in time and experience--you've gotta try the racing games! I plan on buying a second Sixaxis for the 2 player games--LOVE the wireless controller! Overall rating, 10 out of 10! | | Reviewed on 2008-07-26 PS3 (40 GB) Caution!!! My PS3 was bought in November 07, only used for blu-ray movies a few of times, This one frozed and quit playing while watching a Blu-ray movie. Afterwards, it would not recognize any discs (games, DVDs, Blu-rays). They have a serius problem with the blu ray drive... | | Reviewed on 2008-07-24 All in one system It has got to be one of the most versitile piece of electronic I owe. I use ot for it's blueray capabilities as much as for it's gaming capabilities.
I have it connected to my home theatre and it lets me stream music (and video) from my PC. So, I always have my music library available. This is just one of the features. It has many more.
For the money you pay, you just can't go wrong.
Enjoy it. | | Reviewed on 2008-07-23 Great appliance The ps3 is an amazing machine. Don't think of it as just a game console because it does so much more than that. It does a phenomenal job upscaling regular dvd's to be viewed on large screen tv's, it allows you to stream media content (video, audio, web) to your tv wirelessly or wired, it allows you to surf the web, to communicate with other people via web, and it's the best Bluray disk player (it's upgradeable!) around. You can't go wrong with the ps3. | | Reviewed on 2008-07-22 fun, but CAUTION!!!! We got our ps3 in February and after only 5 months, we have to send it in for repairs! It wouldn't read any discs, movies or games. I called Sony, they said we'd have to send it to Texas ( I live in Ohio) and get the repairs done and it would be shipped back. Pain in the rear!!! I am terribly unhappy that the unit only lasted this long. I'm feeling like I should have stayed w/ ps2, or gone to Wii. Sony customer service also needs some fine tuning. | |
