Reviewed on 2008-07-15Painless installation, works flawlessly After installing this dvd writer it has done nothing but work flawlessly. I've burned nearly 30 dvd's with no problems (and with no coasters). If you're looking for a dvd burner look no further, this is what you want.
Reviewed on 2008-06-18Great Product. Recommend!!!! I purchased this dvd burner because my old one was done. It was old and didn't like the new dual layer format. This product works well. Great value for a great price, and it's a Sony. Sony usually has good products that last and it is a name you can trust. Haven't had any problems. It also has a reversible faceplate, so you could have either black or white drive cover. It also had lightscribe, if you want to make more professional looking discs. Definately worth looking into when purchasing a dvd drive.
Reviewed on 2008-06-12Expected Sony Reliability/Quality I have had different brands of CD burners over many years and found the Sony brand to be one that provides consistent quality and performance. This has been my third Sony CD/DVD burner. In the past I've also owned Memorex (good) and Lite-On (they actually provide a technology many brands utilize). I have this installed on a six year old self-built Pentium-4 system running at 2.66ghz and it runs fine. I would expect that older and less able processor systems would be suspect of newer drives based on the processor and resource demands (such as Pentium 3 processor systems). One should take this in consideration regardless of brands when updating any component of older systems. I have no hesitation or reservations with the Sony brand for most electronic components in general though.
Reviewed on 2008-05-31Sony DVD Burner I found the Burner to be as advertised. I like it as so far, it has worked perfectly.
Reviewed on 2008-05-22Works fine, but had faceplate issue . Dell XPS400 The documentation is spread out over several different, multilingual sheets. Kind of hard to follow. This was a replacement for the OEM drive which died. First thing is to make sure you set the master/slave jumper correctly. If you happen to be making this same Dell replacement use the the 3 screws from the original OEM drive instead of the 4 screws supplied. I tried to replace the face plate with the optional black piece. No luck. The drive would not stay closed. The Sony support site indicates this may happen if the black faceplate is not firmly snapped into place. I wasn't comfortable putting anymore pressure on the parts so I switched back to the white faceplate and it works fine. The black faceplate would look better but the price is right.
