| Product DescriptionMODEL- 9805 VENDOR- SQUARE ENIX FEATURES- Final Fantasy X Immerse yourself in a world that has been devastated by a mysterious force known only as "Sin". Where human existence teeters on the brink of extinction, it's up to you to save the beloved homeland of Zanarkand. With integrated voiceovers and a host of new features, Final Fantasy X sets a new standard in gaming for the PS2. In Final Fantasy X, the main character, Tidus, is a star player of blitzball, a full contact sport. After miraculously surviving the destruction of his homeland, he awakens among ruins and thereafter meets a young woman named Yuna. As a summoner, Yuna must travel to distant temples and learn the secret art of summoning aeons- powerful spirits of yore, in order to defeat "Sin." Tidus learns that a thousand years in the past, mankind lived in spectacular cities and relied on machines for everything, until Sin suddenly appeared and destroyed all civilization. Now, people shun technology, and no one knows when "Sin" will strike again. Final Fantasy X features a distinct Asian influence, bringing a fresh feel to the characters, music, settings and story. Final Fantasy X will also be the first in the series to feature voiceovers for the characters. James Arnold Taylor ("A Moment of Silence") and Hedy Burress ("Valentine") will voice the main characters in the U.S. release of Final Fantasy X. In addition to the game's voiceover dialogue and fluid gameplay-to-full-motion- video transitions, Final Fantasy X offers fully 3D environments that seamlessly integrate real-time movement with battles, allowing yous to walk around and engage in battles on the same field map screen. Life-like, high-polygon, motion-captured characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura (Final Fantasy VII, VIII, Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2) bring realism to the screen. As seen in previous Final Fantasy titles, you will be able to enjoy new mini-games, such as mastering the sport of blitzball and the Al Bhed language, plus engage in the all-new "Sphere Grid" battle system. -- SPECIFICATIONS ------------------------------------ ESRB Rating : T for Teen Genre/Category: RPG System : PlayStation 2 Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-07-13 decent rpg, but falls short I have yet to finish this game, but from my hours of gameplay thus far, I can already make some evaluations of the game.
First of all, I am a fan of the battle system and method of learning new abilities and improving stats. I like how you are able to switch out characters immediately during battles. I find the red arrow on the map helpful when trying to delay story progression in order to find items and explore the area.
Despite these enjoyable features, I do find many things I dislike with this installment of final fantasy. For one, I dislike the characters- immensely. Yuna is the cliche, innocent, kind, beautiful character- similar to Aeris or Rinoa, but much more annoying and unlikable. Her lines and mannerisms are aggravating (and I am sure I am not the only one disgusted by the benevolent caress she gives Valefor when summoning!) Tidus is also quite aggravating- but he at least has his moments of humorous stupidity. I also find Wakka's Jamaican-like accent a little unsuitable for his character. The most likable character is Lulu, though her cleavage is quite alarming.
Final Fantasy X seems focused on the plot and the massive amounts of cutscreens are done wonderfully, yet leave me longing for more gameplay time.
For all this, I have to say Final Fantasy X ranks as the lowest Final Fantasy game I have played thus far (though I am led to believe that FF X-2 is even worse!)
After games such as FFVII and FFIX, FFX remains a woefully inadequate successor of the FF title. | | Reviewed on 2008-07-13 One of the greatest games I've ever played. Final Fantasy X was released on the PS2 seven years ago and to this day it still doesn't disappoint me. In fact, this was my first Final Fantasy so its very special to me. This game influenced me to buy all the previous Fantasies and of course the ones after it up to FFXII.
Plot: This is probably the backbone of any Final Fantasy ever created. Every previous game before FFX has amazing stories and this installment definitely doesn't disappoint. You start the story as Tidus, a rising star in the fictional underwater sport of blitzball. From there you travel into several places, some vast and some small, but each place in this world has its own purpose. The character development in the story is also awesome and each character has its own use, although I must say that Rikku and Auron are my ultimate favorites :)
Graphics: Well any Final Fantasy veteran should know that every recent installment is graphically better than the previous one and FFX definitely delivers. Facial expressions on the characters are now installed (like lips moving) since the characters are now voiced! Can I get a hallelujah??? Now the voice-acting is kinda goofy at times but meh.
Music: Pshh...I feel like I dont even have to cover this part since Nobuo Uematsu is composing the music, but lets just leave it as awesome, okay?
Gameplay: Okay the new CTB-system of FFX is probably the weakest point of the game. Why?? I feel like it gives the game a slower feel than the ATB-system but it is more strategical. The sphere grid takes the place of the usual leveling system in usual RPG's and it is definitely the most innovative thing Square has ever come up with in their games. It's fresh and unique, and its probably one of the best things in the game. It is kinda complicated at times but when you get it, you get it.
Difficulty: If you play just the linear game, then I'd say its pretty easy. If you do the numerous sidequests in the game and the optional places (like the Omega Ruins) then you better start training hard. :)
Overall this is a great game to play. I really liked it and I recommend it 100%. | | Reviewed on 2008-06-25 Third Best Final Fantasy Final Fantasy X is third on my final fantasy favourites list. To this day I will pick this game back up and play through to the end. Great game overall. The story is what makes this game one of the best. There are a few too many cut scenes, but the overall game is worth the intrusion. Trust me, at the end of the game you will be ready to sit back and watch the rest of the story unfold. One small problem is the hoops you have to jump through to get everyone's ultimate weapons. If I wasn't an avid gamer, I would have burned the game and stomped the ashes into the ground. Most of the sidequests were entertaining. I especially liked blitzball, although I know most people played it the bare minimum.
Overall a great game that will be remembered for a long time. | | Reviewed on 2008-06-17 To much effort on character voices than on actual game play It's a great game but I miss that ability to revisit past location after your character has grown more powerful. Still had a great time. To much effort on character voices than on actual game play. Jody Bissoon | | Reviewed on 2008-06-02 Final Fantasy 10 I never realy liked turn based RPG. But when I bought Final fantasy 10 it changed my mind for ever. In the first place I did not enjoy TB(rpg)'s is for the single reason that the gameplay was way to slow and never really kept my intrest. But what makes FF10 an exepction is it's simple but complex battle system almost never ruined the pace. And with the additon of voice acting and a story like no other made it better then the rest. Therefore, FF10 should be your game of choice when it comes to TB(rpg). | |
