Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-05-11 OMG Great game! If you are looking for a fun ww2 airplane game this is it what it lacks in grapics it makes up for in gameplay it does everything it says on the game case then some I don't know what I would have done with it! | | Reviewed on 2008-05-03 would have been 6/5 stars if it had worked I paid about 20$ for this game brand new in the case sealed and i was practricly standing on my mail box waiting for it. When i got it, to my suprise, instead of playing for hours without blinking, it did not work...... it loaded up to the menus and that alone was why i gave it 1 star... before the campaign it just stayed on the loading screen for maby an hour and i just gave up on it.....dont buy this game! save yourself the hard earned dowe and buy san andreas and shoot down jets with the "rustler" instead.
| | Reviewed on 2008-05-01 Great Game & Great Service Fun game and great service that amazon provided. I got this on time. Free super saver shipping ROCKZ! | | Reviewed on 2008-04-21 Way Too hard!!!!! I agree with all who said that the game is WAY TOO HARD! I hold a private pilot license and have also flown radio control planes for over 25 yrs so I know what I am saying when I say that the flight charateristics AND the campaign goals are rediculously difficult even in the "rookie" mode. The game may have some possitive value for those who know where and how to get cheats or who enjoy doing the same level 25-30 times and still not advancing but I am not one of those. I had a successfull career as a watchmaker and jeweler so patience and precision are not problems for me but enough is enough. Also there is little or no instruction on how to accomplish any of the goals in each scenario. I was initially pleased with finding a WWII flying game but now very disapointed and have quit playing it since the idea is to have fun not to get so completely frustrated that you want to throw the controller through a window. | | Reviewed on 2008-04-11 What choice do we have in this genre? It's either "Heroes of the Pacific" (HOP) or "Secret Weapons over Normandy" (SWON). Both have plenty of weak points. HOP has more realistic control of your airplane than SWON, but some of the missions are just ridiculously huge. It's like taking on the entire Japanese air force on your own in a few of them. One mission's secondary objective is to shoot down 100 enemy planes! And of course you have an unlimited amount of ammo, rockets, bombs, fuel, and torpedoes. And the Japanese (and you) are flying some aircraft that never saw actual action, but were just experimental prototypes at war's end. Not realistic.
I also found some glaring errors in the airplane capabilities in HOP. For instance, the P-47 Thunderbolt had 8 .50 caliber machine guns in real life, and the P-51 had 6 .50 caliber machine guns, yet the game gives the P-51 more firepower than the P-47. Wrong!
Nevertheless, on the plus side, it is fun on an arcade-like level. It does have pre-determined save points throughout the missions, so that is helpful. You can turn the annoying dialog off and just hear the battle sounds too. SWON has an absolutely idiotic storyline embedded that is really lame. HOP overall is a much harder game to complete because the missions on ACE level can be extremely tough. SWON is not really all that difficult by comparison.
Which is better? I have both, and the decision would have to go to HOP definitely because the control of your plane is much closer to the truth. You can actually loop, barrel-roll, and stall out. No way with SWON. SWON has two or three missions that are just shooting enemy airplanes with antiaircraft guns with no flying involved--just point and shoot. Moronic. SWON control of airplanes and dogfighting is a bit fun at first, but it is so utterly unrealistic that I no longer play it, now that I have HOP.
