Customer ReviewsReviewed on 2008-05-31 Fun and Addicting Lots of people already wrote what I wanted to say, so I will just re-emphasize them: this game is totally fun, colorful, challenging and addicting! Lots of new levels and different kinds of enemies. The drone assistance gives the game an extra kick. It's especially fun when you do multi-player mode. | | Reviewed on 2008-02-04 Quick and painless This game is quick to pick up and painless to put down. It is a great time-killer and has addictive qualities that make you want to keep playing it. Unlike a lot of games that require you to review the last two hours that you played and also require a substantial time contribution just to make some progress, this allows a person to pick it up, have some fun and put it back down. That being said you'll likely want to keep picking it up again and again because it is genuinely a nice distraction from anyone that has to think for a living. No thinking, just acting, and that is a great thing. If you want something complex and engrossing, sorry keep looking, but if you are just looking for a good time with no strings attached, this is your thing. | | Reviewed on 2008-01-24 One of the best games for the Wii If you think this game looks cool from the box, then chances are you wont be disappointed. If you don't really like the way it looks, then you wont enjoy playing it at all. It's very addictive, hectic, and intense. Apparently some people struggle with the controls, but I picked it up instantly. It controls essentially the same way as the little tank game on Wii Play, but about 200,000 times faster. You can use the classic controller if you're that inept, but the controls with the remote are one of the best things about this game. The graphics are the second best. The music is nothing to take note of; just play some electronic music of your own while you play the game. | | Reviewed on 2008-01-07 Arcade Shooting Frenzy! It's like Asteroids, Tempest, Galaxian and Robotron all merged together. One goal - survive. You go up against an insane amount of enemies that come at your from all directions. I am amazed at the amount of enemies on screen at one time. It's a total blast. When things get to crazy on screen you can fire off a bomb (start with 3 per level) which will destroy all enemies on screen. You can gain extra lives and bombs at certain scoring levels.
You are not alone as you can equip a drone to help you in battle. You can upgrade and outfit your drone with various behaviors such as Attack, Defend, Collect, etc.
There is no online multiplayer functionality, but two people can play together locally (co-op and versus).
There are online leaderboards for Galaxies. One for individual planets and one for the total score of all the planets. You do have to manually upload your scores which is odd, but it's quick and easy to do so. An automatic WiiConnect24 upload would of been nice. It's quite fun to see how you are ranking with other players.
OK, bad stuff (not much really): The instruction manual is bad, real bad. It doesn't even tell you what you are supposed to do. Sure, you shoot everything on screen, but information on the drones, enemies, multipliers and general strategy would of been nice. You just kind of have to figure it out on your own. The game lacks a sense of polish as far as the menus go leaving it with a sense of emptiness.
I would definitely check this one out if you like old school arcade shooters, but be warned - it's damn challenging and very addictive. | | Reviewed on 2007-12-29 Best Game Ever.. I feel like it's 1980 again, but better. This game is like asteroids and tempest mixed together, but on steroids and shinier and prettier and much more addictive than anything else I've ever played. Mario Galaxy is patiently waiting to play but I can't stop playing this. You use the remote to control what direction you shoot...like Tempest, and the nunchuck to control the direction you go...like Asteroids. There are so many dimensions to this game with drones, collecting geoms to help you score more as you shoot enemies, and a bunch of planets to unlock. There are even black holes that suck you, your enemies and even curves your line of fire. This game is also sucking my time! | |
