Reviewed on 2008-07-23 Excellent device The DVR extender is very good and can record up to 300 extra hours of television. It was easy to follow the directions given to install the device.

Reviewed on 2008-07-19 Bigger is better! We have the Scientific Atlantic HD8300 DVR through Cablevision. When recording in HD, it holds a measely 20 hours of recording. Not much when you have a family of four recording things right and left! To keep peace in the kingdom, I gave this DVR Expander to my husband for his birthday, which added an addtional 60 hours of HD recording time! Yeah! Follow the instructions and set up is no problem. It works seemlessly with the DVR and all functions on the remote work just fine. Prior to purchasing, I did contact Western Digital because I had concerns about power outages. Many reviews and the instructions state that the Expander must remain powered at all times and that not doing so could risk losing recorded programs. We live in the north east and are subject to storm related power outages. The tech support person said that so long as the DVR and the Expander are powering back up at the same time, there should not be an issue and you should not lose any recordings. We'll see. Haven't encountered that problem yet. The drive does get a bit warm, so make sure all vents are in open air. Now if the price would just come down like regular hard drives...

Reviewed on 2008-07-18 price is dropping now finally i got this for 175ish . I have never seen it below 200. Now its even lower than 175. Im guessing because a bigger size is being released. Tivo updated software yet again so only this drive works. Not much to write for a review it works, if it didnt that would be just pitiful. My tivo was full and now its free to randomly suggest shows once again.

Reviewed on 2008-07-17 Beware SA 8300 Series Compatibility The manufacturer information is misleading at best. This unit is NOT compatible with the SA 8300 HDC (which happens to be the only version currently used by Time-Warner at least in my city). The HDC has the plug-in (rather than motherboard built-in) cable card. Fortunately I was able to swap my HDC for my wife's legacy 8300HD (built in cable decoder) and the WD drive works fine - great to have the extra capacity. But check out which 8300 model your cable company uses to be sure you don't have an SA 8300HDC!

Reviewed on 2008-07-14 You need this for high def recording! Installed on my Tivo Series 3 incredibly easy, I didn't even read the directions and it installed that easy! Gives you 85+ hours of HD recording (which is why I bought it - HD is a major space hog)! Next to my wireless adapter, the best thing you can add to your Tivo! A++
